JANUARY - MARCH

The Upstanders & Nevertheless launch

'The Upstanders', our third film in Indieflix’s Mental Health Trilogy, started screening to school communities in January. A powerful documentary about resilience and the power of connection to end cyber-bullying, it has been a critical antidote to the screen addiction and frustrations of the Covid era. This was followed in March by 'Nevertheless', which gives a 20-year perspective on women's fight against workplace sexual harassment and inequality, through 7 very personal stories of women who refused to accept their treatment. In December we were honored to have Tarana Burke, founder of the #MeToo and #ActToo Movements, join our Director Sarah Moshman for a powerful discussion following a live screening with the 3% Conference

MARCH

Virtual Delivery for Films & Festivals

Covid-19 wiped out all Indieflix’s in-person screenings overnight. Within a week we completely transformed our business model and how we reached communities, using our streaming capabilities to deliver dedicated virtual screenings. Not only could schools, corporations and community leaders deliver the film to each audience member’s device, we could then follow each screening with panel discussions and Q&A. Since March we have hosted over 600 virtual screenings in over 15 countries, from small schools to globally-based conferences and corporations. In September our streaming capabilities enabled independent film festivals to operate virtually, with Indieflix handling all logistics from film presentation and previews, screenings, live discussion and ticket purchase.

'RACE' in Production

2020 opened the world's eyes to this country's systemic and pervasive racial inequality. In a year where depression and anxiety have sky-rocketed, understanding has increased about the intense toll that racism has on mental health. RACE will address this head-on. As with our other films, RACE will engage through individual stories and experiences, exploring effective ways to examine our unconscious beliefs, and disrupt our own behavior, so that we can shift the trajectory now, and into the future. Appropriate for ages 10 and up, it will screen in community format to schools and corporations, together with panel discussions and follow-up curriculum. Produced and directed by Scilla Andreen and the Indieflix team, the target premiere date is October 2021.

Kids In The Spotlight launches

Indieflix streaming service has always been an Aladdin's cave of familiar favorites and undiscovered gems. From features to shorts, documentaries to series, its aim is not just to entertain and educate, but also to directly support filmmakers, who are paid for every minute watched. We're thrilled to announce the launch of our new 'Kids In The Spotlight' channel, made up of  70 (and counting) short films made by foster youth. These L.A. County students learned to screen-write, cast, act in and edit their stories, with the support of LA industry professionals, and the results are enlightening, entertaining and deeply moving. We are so proud to be involved in creating a forum for these talented, creative and resilient students to be seen and heard.
