Tommy Goodfellow is one of the best collectors in town. But when his boss informs him that the family is now owned by a Fortune 500 company, Tommy is rendered ineffective. The new company rules stress safety, political correctness and a ban on the use of the word "money". Consequently, it is impossible for Tommy to get money from any of the deadbeats who are behind on their payments. Tommy asks one borrower to break his own fingers because the new company policy prohibits violence on the part of the collector. Eventually, Tommy is taunted and ridiculed by people who once feared him. The story ends as Tommy quits the mob to become a panhandler so he can set his own hours and take home tax-free money. Before long, however, the world of homelessness is bought out and taken over by banks. Tommy is horrified when he learns that even begging in public is now subject to corporate policy.
