Following the quest of a man's awkward dream to be named after his favourite football club, director Stefan Valdobrev brings us close to a Bulgarian builder and his memorable mates. He is one of many so disappointed by life in contemporary Bulgaria that they migrate to their own substitute reality. The journey starts in Svishtov, a small town on the bank of the river Danube, where this single, often jobless 48-year-old man lives alone with his mother and his cat called Beckham. In a moment of passion during the 1999 Champions League final, Marin Zdravkov Levidzhov pledges to tie his very legal identity to the club. He starts a ten-year odyssey through court, churches and authorities, hoping that one day he will wake up as Manchester United Zdravkov Levidzhov. This film creates a moving portrait of contemporary Bulgaria, bringing us close to the protagonist's struggle, which leads all the way to Old Trafford Stadium, where he meets his idol, the Manchester United top-striker Dimitar Berbatov, and ends up back home, raising questions about identity, who we are and who we want to be.
