This story takes place in the Bronx, NYC where Phoenix, the Fury, Mostyn in his youth dreams about becoming a light heavyweight champion fighter like his father Antonio Mostyn. Antonio drunkenly comes home one night after winning a show fight and is welcomed home by witnessing the love of his life, his wife of ten years, Yessinia Mostyn making love to his only younger brother Hector. In a rage of fury, Antonio uses his bare hands to commit a crime a passion. After years of training and surviving the streets of the Bronx, Phoenix eventually becomes a father to Taylor, son from his girlfriend Zora. Zora nurtures and supports Phoenix on his journey to become the greatest lightweight champion. In his darkest moments, she is Phoenix's guiding light. However, after ten years of commitment and raising their nine year old son Zora has finally decided to challenge Phoenix and ask him to marry her. As the fear and uncertainty of marriage continues to build, Phoenix takes the opportunity to explore his secret desires to be in love with a man. Phoenix eventually meets Benjamin 'Jensen' Walker at an all male dance club. Phoenix and Jensen share a few drinks and conversation that eventually builds into a relationship. Throughout our story, Phoenix and Jensen's friendship develops into a loving relationship that changes the course of Phoenix's life. Ultimately, his sexual identity is challenged along with his commitment to life and successful fighting career. Phoenix's best friend Andre reveals Phoenix's secret to the entire boxing club, not only does Phoenix's manager and coach has to make the hard choice of losing a great fighter Phoenix also has to decide if he is going to continue to fight; even, out of the ring. In summary, 'The Main Event...in America' is about not fitting within a male dominated culture, where masculinity is rarely seen as negotiable.
