Welcome to February! We were glad to wave 2020 behind but my goodness, why is January always so long? As February is the month of love, we're thinking about family love and relationships - and most particularly how they have been stressed and stressed with Covid. Today is also the first day of Black History Month, which we celebrate with our very early days, first sneak peak at RACE, as well as an amazing black youth storytellers event later on this month. Finally, we have two great promotions for calendar planning, to fit in with Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in April, and Mental Health Awareness Month in May - more critical than ever with all of the past year's collective losses and increased time online. Stay healthy, happy and let's keep supporting each other.
Healthy Family Relationships during Covid
Everyone's relationships have been under strain this past year, and the family unit has been no exception. This blog post examines the disastrous mental health effects of Covid on our youth, and how small steps to refocus can make a big difference
Production is in full swing on RACE, a film designed to help people understand systemic racism, and our own unconscious biases, remove prejudice and open up conversation. Told through personal stories and expert analysis, RACE will be appropriate for 3rd grade and up. We put together a very early-stage 'first-look', for an ASCA Town Hall on Racism and Student Mental Health' on January 13th, and it's here to view now. Booking from September for January 2021 screenings.
April marks Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Despite #MeToo and Time's Up, victims still err on the side of silence due to the negative repercussions of speaking out, and there is strong evidence that most workplace anti-harassment programs backfire. Change starts with a fundamental shift in attitude, which only results from genuine connection. The stories and reflections of both women and men in Nevertheless do exactly this
Mental Health Awareness Month has never been more important. Anxiety, social media addiction and cyber-bullying have all sky-rocketed with Covid. Time to plan ahead for when everyone is talking about it: - if you book any of the films in our Mental Health Trilogy in February to screen in May, enjoy a 5% discount. This increases to 10% off if you book two or more films.
No-one is immune to anxiety - not Michael Phelps and certainly not football players. We're teaming up with the NFL and United Way's Character Playbook, an organization that champions Healthy Relationships and Mental Wellness, for three Angst screenings, followed by one all-star discussion panel. The panel will be moderated by Angst co-producer and iNDIEFLIX CEO Scilla Andreen and will feature football stars DJ Chark and Calais Campbell. Anyone can register for this once-in-a-lifetime panel!
