As vaccines become more available and the weather improves, it feels like we're emerging slowly as if from hibernation, blinking and marveling in the sun. Here's what's coming up to help cast off Covid's long shadow, and re-set.
Mental Health Trilogy now Built into a Full Year, Turnkey SEL Program for Schools!
Our Mental-health films directly address three of the major Covid-stressors for adolescents - anxiety, social-media addiction and cyber-bullying, which have sky-rocketed in the last year. For the next school year, these films will be fully integrated into a robust and easy-to-implement SEL program for middle and high schools. Based on cognitive behavioral therapy, 24 plug-n-play learning modules convert the insights and tools from the films into long-term mind and habit shifts for happier and healthier students. The program comes FREE with all trilogy contracts for the 2021-22 school year. As we approach Mental Health Awareness Month in May, this is a gift for students that will last a lifetime. Making Sexual Assault Awareness Month Count
Sexual Assault Awareness month runs throughout April. Recent news stories relating to the rape cultures of middle and high schools, the dramatic rise in college harassment and continuation of workplace harassment shows that #MeToo and Time's Up can only do so much; to change things for our daughters and grand-daughters. What we really need is a systemic cultural shift - exactly what our film 'Nevertheless' addresses. Suitable for age 14 up, it's a must-see for all schools and organizations.
The violence of the past 12 months have shone the light on pervasive and systemic racism, and how far we can stray as a nation from fully embracing one of our keys strengths: multiculturalism. We're currently filming 'Race' to help open up conversations for better understanding and equity, with screenings from January 2022. In the meantime, on April 24th, the National Antiracist Book Festival will showcase a towering range of voices, from Celeste Ng to Ibram X. Kendi; Brene Brown to Ilhan Omar. If you're in the mood to watch and learn instead, some recent short film additions to our iNDIEFLIX On-Demand Streaming library focus on different aspects of the BIPOC experience, from 'Marie's Dictionary', about the last fluent speaker of the Wukchumni language to the experience of one the the first Asian-origin actresses, to 'She's Revolutionary', the back story of activist and mother, Tarana Burke.
These films are part of a recent and wonderful expansion of our 'content for a purpose' shorts, thanks to the addition of some of Aud-Pop's best content, and the ongoing integration of social-purpose specialist Seed and Spark. Soon all of our content will be available globally to library-users, via the fabulous Overdrive platform. As with our educational screenings, we can't wait for these films to make the world a better place for all.
