The Flats

The Flats

With an affinity for booze, debauchery, and raucous nights, Harper must decide whether or not to flee his jail sentence and leave his friends for good. His quandary becomes even more difficult when his best friends new girlfriend digs into his soul.

A striking directorial debut, The Flats is a tightly crafted cautionary tale of longing and desire showcasing a uniquely Northwest voice. The story picks up as Harper (Chad Lindberg, The Velocity of Gary, October Sky, The Fast and the Furious, The Rookie), returns home on the eve of a court date that could send him to jail. With a less than appealing verdict, the self-destructing Harper decides to make the most of the few days of freedom he is granted and moves in with his rag-tag group of friends. As his best friend Luke’s (Actor/Composer Sean Christensen, Eden) days are filled with the demands of a new job, Harper finds unexpected comfort in Luke’s new girlfriend, Paige (Jade Herrera, Tortilla Soup, Doe Boy, Felicity), who has returned to the area in search of her Native American roots. Filmed in Washington’s picturesque Skagit Valley, The Flats exposes an honest and moving account of friendship, desire and the struggles encountered on the road to adulthood.

Kelly Requa, Producer / Co-Writer / Co-Director

Native of Mount Vernon, Washington, and graduate of UW Film & Video program, Kelly first took interest in film while attending a college acting class.

Upon graduation Kelly turned his attention to writing screenplays. While interning at Shadow Catcher Entertainment (Smoke Signals), Kelly was able to learn all aspects of film production from indie-stalwarts, Larry Estes and Scott Rosenfelt. He also found a passion for directing. In 2001, Kelly's 24-minute short film Last Whiskey, premiered at the Seattle International Film Festival.

Tyler Requa, Producer / Co-Writer / Co-Director

Native of Mount Vernon, Washington, Tyler made his writing and directing debut at age 16 with Hama Rules, a short play for a regional theatre festival.

After graduating from high school, Tyler moved to LA where he paid the bills doing script coverage for several production companies. His work with producer Raquel Carreras (Destiny Turns on the Radio) fine tuned his screenwriting skills and led to the optioning of his first feature script, Young Americans.

Disappointed that the film was never produced, Tyler decided to join forces with brother, Kelly Requa, and the two co-wrote and co-directed The Flats, their feature film debut. The Flats went on to play in a total of 13 festivals, in 4 countries, garnering numerous awards.

The brothers have recently finished their original screenplay, Idea Men.
