Award-winning documentary about a lawless town & the song it inspired.

Urban legends warn about an isolated Southern town that’s so rough, the locals ran-off their police department and outsiders fear to tread. A lawless place where pot grows, moonshine flows, and anarchy reigns. To biker/bluesman Big Mike Griffin, Iron City seemed like great material for a song. But first, he must find out for himself if the legends are true.

Pack some heat and join the road-trip in a documentary inspired by "Easy Rider". Join Big Mike rides his Harley deep into Tennessee’s backwoods, along with his 40 caliber, and a cigar-chomping ex-Marine as a guide. You'll meet a collection of unforgettable characters as you witness the creation of a song about the most notorious town in the South.

Welcome to Iron City.... Watch your back.

Iron City is located deep in the backwoods of Tennessee and is surrounded by tall ridges that block radio and cell communications with the outside world. It is located between Pulaski (where they founded the KKK) and McNairy County (made famous by Sheriff Bufford Pusser and the film "Walking Tall"). Iron City's police department has been abandoned since their last officer quit in 1989.

Filming in such a place presented many challenges, not the least of which was security. The crew was grateful to have a 6'10" giant-sized bluesman along, as well as an Ex-Marine.

After a successful film festival run where it received several awards, the "Iron City Blues" DVD made its debut at Bike Week in Daytona Beach, Florida. The documentary has since been featured in Biker Magazine, Easyriders (Europe), Thunder Press, Vintage Guitar Magazine, Chrom Und Flammen (Germany) and others.

The town of Iron City was like a time machine. In one sense, it gave us a look back at how a town must have seemed in the Old West; with outlaws, gun fights, and a prevailing sense of anarchy. However, it could also be seen as a window into the future by showing just how damaging and far-reaching the effects of an economic collapse can be. By telling the story of Iron City through the framework of the creation of a blues song, we were able to concisely present the history of this unique town, and explore the themes of resiliency, freedom and nihilism through back-porch story-tellin' and the power of a camera's lens.

The film "Easy Rider" was an inspiration for much of the cinematography of "Iron City Blues", particularly the opening title sequence, which I hope lived up to the high bar which this classic film set.

Working with biker/bluesman Big Mike Griffin was a real treat and he brought several unique elements to the documentary. Thanks in large part to Big Mike's presence in the film, "Iron City Blues" has been embraced by bikers throughout America and Europe. We are excited to now be distributed by IndieFlix and look forward to our film being exposed to a broader audience outside of the biker community. You certainly don't have to own a Harley-Davidson to enjoy "Iron City Blues", but after you watch it, you just might get the urge to fire up a Hog and take a road-trip yourself. Enjoy the ride!

I just had to watch this. I'm glad I bought the DVD. As a traveller, I love to see new places, and being a cop, I had to see what this lawless town was all about. I don't know that I'd want to work there, but I'd love to visit the place one day. Though I'd keep my private life to myself. The feature is nicely put together. It's hard to fit a lot into 52 mins, but I wanted to see just a bit more of the town itself. Perhaps the locals don't take to kindly to cameras making their way around the place.
